I ran across this fantastic diy 6502 scratch-built computer project by Quinn Dunki. I’ve just started reading through all the posts about her “Veronica” project and I’m very impressed (and inspired) by what she’s done. Anyone who grew up with computers in the 1980’s almost certainly used systems based on the classic 6502 processor; it was used in Commodores, Apple IIs, Ataris, BBC Micros and others. What a great idea to build your own system from scratch around one of these chips; bravo!
This is a very thought-provoking talk by Richard Dawkins and Lawrence Krauss on the topic of “Something from Nothing.” Krauss is a theoretical physicist / cosmologist and Dawkins is an evolutionary biologist; hearing the two of them discuss the topic from their respective viewpoints makes for a great lecture.
Here’s an interesting talk by Sam Harris re: free will.
- Shermer presents “The Believing Brain” at the Center for Inquiry in NYC and
- Another TED talk by Shermer, “The pattern behind self-deception”
Here’s a bit more about Mr. Shermer on his TED bio page.
